Photoshop Tutorial (making a horseshoe)

This time I make hoseshoe like in JRA campaign.
The layered Photoshop file is available at the end of the tutorial!

1. Create a horseshoe

First of all, make a path like below.

Create a new layer and create the selection of the path, then fill it (Cmd/Ctrl+delete). Then Go toLayer>Layer Styles>Gradient Overlay.

Copy this layer (Ctrl + J), and add Layer styles, Inner Glow and Colar Overlay like below. And move it under the last one.

Holding Cmd/Ctrl click on the layer and create a selection, then press the bottom arrow key and Cmd/Ctr+delete (flill it). you repeat this process 5 times. It will be thickness of the horseshoe.

Next, we create a new path like below. Create a selection and press Cmd/Ctr+delete (flill it).
Add a style layer like below.(Inner Shadow, Colar Overlay, Gradient Overlay)




It will be the groove on the horseshoe.

2. Create light effect

Now we want to have a nice light. Next step, we create light effect from upper left.

Create a new path like this.

Create a new layer set and create new layer in the layer set.

Note:You have to change the blend mode to Color Dodge the layer set.

Then click on the paintbrush tool (B) and choose a very thin, hard brush. n this case I suggest using a thickness of 2. You must have white colar as your burush colar.
Now switch to the PEN tool. You must switch tools in order to do this next bit.
Then right click and select “Stroke Path”. You will get a little dialog box appear as in the screenshot. Choose “Brush” and make sure there is a tick next to “Simulate Pressure”. This is important as it will give your curve tapered ends which will make it rock!

You repeat this effect about 2 times to add the lite effect ohter points.


Then you add more light effect. Ceate a new layer in the layer set.
Using the Elliptical Marquee Tool create a selection like the image below.

Cmd/Ctr+delete (flill it white), and Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur.

make the selection of horseshoe layer, then go to Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection.
Finally, move the last layer to the upper left where you feel good.
