Photoshop Tutorial (making a floater)

Today, I’ll tell you how to make a floater in photoshop.
Actuallly, my first langage is not English. So, my tutrial might be obscure. But I want to try for practice…
If you feel this is too difficult, don’t worry because you can download the instructions (PSD file) at the end of my article.

We can find floaters in many sites. Especially as a icon like this.
So, Let’s try to make one!

Create Object

First, make a new file 500×500. And fill it blue(#234D8C) like below(layer1).

make a new shape layer(layer2) like this.

hide layer2 and create layer(layer3) filled white.

and Go to Layer>Layer Style and add layer style below.

Then create new layer set and add mask like this.

here is result.

Create layer(layer4) and fill it like this.

And Go to Layer>Layer Style and add layer style below.

now your file should looks like this.

Create Lights and shadows

Next we make shadows and lights.
move layer1 to the top of layers and　Go to Layer>Layer Style>Outer Glow(detail is like below). then fill to 0%.

create a new layer(layer5) and make path like this.

Then right click and select “Stroke Path”. (using pen tool)

create shadow and light same process like this.
you should change shadow layer to a blending mode of “Soft Light”

I add more light effect.
create a new layer and make selection inside of the floater and fill white. and Filtter>Blur>Gaussian Blur 30px.

change the blending mode to “Over Ray” and add mask like this.
